Ipswich Tru7 Group Witches captain Danny King believes he skippers the side with “the most strength in depth” in the Rowe Motor Oil Premiership for 2026.
King and his teammates caught up with fans at Venue 16 for the Ipswich Speedway Supporters Club’s Meet the Riders event on Thursday evening.
The former British champion took some laps along with local legend Scott Nicholls, Polish star Tobiasz Musielak, British racer Richard Lawson, Swedish talent Philip Hellstrom-Bangs and rising star Jason Edwards at Witches’ press and practice day at Foxhall on Thursday afternoon. Top gun Tom Brennan was absent due to a Polish commitment with Bydgoszcz but took a skid there on Wednesday.
Ipswich may have assembled their starting line-up after four of their Premiership rivals as they awaited completion of the club’s winter takeover by Mayfield, but King is pleased with the side that will defend Witches’ Rowe Motor Oil Premiership crown. He said: “I have belief in the boys. I think they have put together a very good team, considering how late the club came to the table.
“The line-up looks very different to a lot of the other teams. I do believe we have the most strength in depth. Time will tell, but if we all go out and perform, we can beat anyone.
“We will always be that team that has a strong reserve. It’s going to mean that everybody has to go and do their bit in every meeting. We are going to rely on all seven riders. But it is a team that can do well.
“It’s the first time we have got the team together and everyone has bonded well. We have some new guys coming in, and they seem like really good guys. I am quite excited to get on track and get going with the team.”
After an anxious winter, Witches fans were lifted by news of record seven-time British champion Nicholls’ return to Foxhall for the first time since 2010. It means he will be spending a lot of time with King in 2026 as the pair will also race for Plymouth in the Cab Direct Championship.
“I am very much looking forward to that,” King said. “Scott is a fantastic rider and a bit of a boyhood hero of mine, so to be able to ride with him is going to be great. I think we are going to bounce off each other and bring the best out of each other.”
