Ipswich Tru7 Group Witches star Tom Brennan admits “words can’t describe how excited and honoured I am” after being nominated as ATPI FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Manchester wild card.
Brennan wears the famous No.16 race jacket for both nights of Britain’s biggest speedway event on June 5 and 6, taking his place on the Speedway GP stage for the first time since 2024, when he raced in the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Cardiff.
The 25-year-old was part of the GB teams that stormed to 2021 and 2024 FIM Speedway of Nations gold at Manchester’s National Speedway Stadium – the first of those ending the Lions’ 32-year wait for a world team title.
He joined forces with Speedway GP stars Robert Lambert and Dan Bewley on both occasions, but it will be every rider for himself in Manchester as the GB trio go from teammates to rivals.
Brennan can’t wait to test himself on the sport’s biggest stage once again. He said: “As soon as I got the call-up for it, it was like a dream come true, to be in the British GP. For me, it’s always a big goal and words can’t describe how excited and honoured I am to have the opportunity.
“It’s a double-header, so I get two cracks at it. It will be really cool to learn from everybody and learn from the whole experience.
“When I did Cardiff in 2024, that pushed my career on massively. Just to be around those top guys and in that environment is definitely important. To have two days of racing makes it even better.”
The Swindon-born star endured a tough winter after suffering a fractured left tibia and fibula, while training for an event in California. But he has bounced back well with British club Ipswich – a team he helped to Rowe Motor Oil Premiership championship glory in 2025. He also races for Metalkas 2. Ekstraliga side Bydgoszcz in Poland and Swedish champions Vastervik.
Brennan is no stranger to the National Speedway Stadium, having competed for Belle Vue from 2021 until 2023, playing his part in the Aces claiming the Premiership title in 2022.
Asked his expectations for the Manchester double-header, Brennan replied: “I would be satisfied with being in the mix, which is the main thing. During the races, I would like to be on the pace. I’d like to show the world again that I am touching this level of being world class.
“These guys are obviously good. Speedway GP riders are the best in the world. I just want to keep doing what I do, keep on racing hard and improve as much as I can.”
Joining Brennan in the line-up in Manchester are track reserves Anders Rowe and Dan Thompson, with the former SGP2 riders wearing the No.17 and No.18 race jackets respectively.
