Ipswich boss Paul Hurry believes “we should start to see the old Tom Brennan back” as the Tru7 Group Witches head to Sheffield in the Rowe Motor Oil Premiership on Thursday.
Brennan raced to a crucial nine paid 10 points as the Witches defeated the Tigers 52-38 at Foxhall last Thursday, before joining forces with Scott Nicholls to seal the bonus point 5-4 in the super heat.
After what has been a testing campaign at times for the Witches No.1, Hurry was delighted to see Brennan go unbeaten by an opponent in his final three rides before the super heat against a likely play-off rival.
He hopes the double FIM Speedway of Nations world champion can take this form to Owlerton.
Hurry said: “Tom has had a bit of a change-around with some of his equipment. He was trying different stuff at the start of the season. That obviously wasn’t working, and he has pinpointed that.
“He changed it for last Thursday and it worked. Hopefully this Thursday, it is going to work for him again. There is no reason why not. Then I think we should start to see the old Tom Brennan back.”
Witches hope Danny King will be passed fit after he battled to an heroic 12-point, four-ride maximum against the Tigers last week. Hurry admits he faced an intense schedule at No.2 on his racing return.
He said: “Last week was tough on Danny. It was his first meeting back, and it is quite demanding at times around Ipswich. Coming back from a rib injury is hard going. People don’t realise. Not only does he have that to deal with; all of his races are in the first 10 or 11 heats.”
King’s former Foxhall teammate Jordan Jenkins steps in as a guest in place of the injured Kevin Juhl Pedersen at Owlerton, and Hurry is pleased to see him finding his form after a difficult start to 2026.
He said: “Jordan has been going really well recently. Knowing Jordan from previously, and he has come to a few of my training schools before, he started the season with high hopes, but the engines he was using didn’t quite work out for him.
“He has gone back to what he knows best and what works for him, and he has hit the ground running again. It’s just a shame he had to take the time to find out the engines he had weren’t really suited to him. But now he can get back on track. He can score points, get his confidence up and do well.”
Witches return to Foxhall for one of their biggest nights of the season on Monday, when they face Leicester in the Premiership Knockout Cup Final, first leg. Tickets are available online HERE now.
