Ipswich boss Paul Hurry hailed “world-class” racers Danny King and Tobiasz Musielak ahead of the Tru7 Group Witches’ Rowe Motor Oil Premiership clash with Sheffield on Thursday.
The pair kept the 2025 Premiership champions in contention as they went down 48-42 at King’s Lynn on Monday, with Polish star Musielak scoring 12 points and skipper King adding 11.
This was enough to earn fourth-placed Ipswich the bonus point 93-86 on aggregate and keep the Stars in fifth place – two points behind in the battle for the top four finish needed to secure a play-off berth.
Victory by 13 points or more over the Tigers at Foxhall will fire the Witches up to third place, and Hurry hopes his in-form duo can continue their high-scoring heroics, even if King didn’t get the chance to take them to Warsaw and race for Great Britain in the BOLL FIM Speedway World Cup Final this Saturday.
Hurry said: “Really and truly, when Danny rides for Ipswich, he is world class – along with Tobi Musielak.
“Why Danny has not been included in the Great Britain squad, I do not know. But that’s another story. He didn’t even get a phone call.
“A few of the boys weren’t making starts at King’s Lynn. For the boys that were, it showed in their scoring.
“We need to win the remaining matches that we are in, starting on Thursday, and that would put any doubts about the play-offs to bed.”
Following the Sheffield showdown, Witches head to Leicester on Monday, before facing another crunch away clash with Northampton next Thursday.
Hurry’s side is without Ipswich legend Scott Nicholls this week as he continues his recovery from a broken collarbone, suffered at Foxhall on August 6. Lewis Kerr steps in as a guest on Thursday.
But his good friend and team manager says he is on the road to recovery. Hurry said: “We are missing him really – not only on the track, but in the pits as well. He has been having laser treatment – a lot of treatment to get back.
“It was only really on Sunday and Monday that it was starting to feel good and stopped clicking. It is still tender and it’s still probably not 50 percent. But it is coming good, and he says he is starting to feel progress.”
