Some words from Ipswich ‘Tru7 Group’ Witches promoter Chris Louis after Emil Sayfutdinov announced he would not be racing in Britain in 2026.
“I would like to thank all our fans, staff and sponsors who were able to support and celebrate with us both on the Cornhill and at the end of season party at Venue16 on Friday. I would also like to thank the Mayor of Ipswich, Stefan Long, Ipswich Borough Council and the Ipswich Speedway Supporters’ Club for hosting us and putting on such memorable occasions. It really was the perfect end to a great season.
“On Friday evening you all received the news that Emil will not be returning to the UK in 2026 from the man himself. I know it was very important for him to tell you himself, which just goes to show the very real and genuine bond that he has made with the club and its fans. Emil’s social media post and speech on the night was so appreciative and just goes to show how much he has taken our club to his heart. It was such a difficult time for Emil and his family when he was left in the wilderness because of the war in Ukraine and I felt something needed to be done.
“My work to allow Emil to race in the UK was not universally accepted and alienated me in some quarters, but it soon became apparent that he was going to be a hugely popular character, not only at Ipswich, but up and down the country. His outrageously exciting racing prowess entertained fans everywhere he went and has cemented him in Ipswich folklore. I will be forever grateful for his commitment to the club, and I am sure that he has gained so many fans, not only locally but across the UK, who will continue to support him wherever he races. It has been a long journey for some, but you played a massive part in helping us back to the top.
“From your teammates, fans, sponsors, and everyone at the club, we thank you and wish you every success in the future. Once a Witch always a Witch!”
