Ipswich Tru7 Group Witches newcomer Philip Hellstrom-Bangs is ready to go high and wide as his British debut season approaches.
The Swedish shooting star is just a week away from his Witches debut, when they host East Anglian rivals King’s Lynn in the Premiership Knockout Cup next Thursday.
Hellstrom-Bangs built a reputation for putting it all on the line as he starred in SGP2, and he’s determined to bring that excitement to Foxhall next week.
He said: “First of all, I would like to score the points for the team and be a good rider that everyone can believe in. I want to show the fans what I can do, and how good I am. I want to give them everything they are expecting and be the crazy rider that I am on the dirt line.”
It isn’t just the Foxhall track where Hellstrom-Bangs can’t wait to get sideways. He enjoyed some of his best junior events at Manchester’s National Speedway Stadium, impressing for Sweden with an all-action display at the 2021 FIM Speedway of Nations Final, before leading his country to SON2 silver in 2024.
He is looking forward to heading back there on April 20 and admits it’s a home away from home. He said: “To go to Manchester as an Ipswich rider, where I also have family living, is great. My uncle Niclas lives in the UK and works in a bank, Handelsbanken. I think they have bases in Manchester and Ipswich.
“He will help me a lot this year with my contracts and everything like that. I am good at English, but sometimes British English can be a little bit difficult. I will have him to support me, driving me from the airport to the matches. I will have somewhere to sleep too. I think it will be good.”
