Ipswich chairman Richard Coleman says the Tru7 Group Witches are already consulting on changes to the Foxhall track as the club prepares for an historic season in 2027.
The Suffolk side hosts the biggest event in its history when the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Ipswich comes to Foxhall on Saturday, August 14, with the FIM SGP2 of Great Britain – Ipswich for the FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship stars taking place on Friday, August 13.
To ensure Foxhall is at its best for these huge occasions, as well as a big season of Rowe Motor Oil Premiership action, the Witches are investigating options to widen and improve the racetrack.
While Coleman admits the stock car track surrounding the speedway oval limits what can be done, he’s determined to upgrade the action for 2027.
Coleman said: “There are some limitations with Foxhall in terms of the width of the straight with the stock car track. But we want to try and make some fairly significant changes to the track by increasing the camber by dropping the apexes and widening the bends.
“At the moment, with the way the track camber is, you can’t really use all of the camber, which restricts racing quite a lot.
“The other thing is the material is very, very tired. It has been down for a long time and it’s quite patchy. A lot of that needs to be changed.
“We are in the consultation period of what we can do within the limitations. With the GP coming to Ipswich, we also need to make sure we are at the forefront of the safety conversation, and everything is compliant from that perspective. We will do all of that in one hit, and I am confident we will have a good racetrack for 2027.”
