Ipswich star Demi-Blu Harris has the chance to become a global gold medallist when she competes in the 2026 FIM Women’s Speedway Gold Trophy at Croatian track Donji Kraljevec on Saturday.
The event is part of the annual FIM Women’s Speedway Academy, which gets underway on Thursday and Friday, as women from 10 different countries receive expert coaching from Slovenia’s former Speedway GP winner and European champion Matej Zagar, plus FIM Track Racing Commission director Armando Castagna, FIM Speedway race director Phil Morris and FIM Long Track race director Glen Phillips.
A comprehensive programme will take riders through many aspects of the sport including riding technique, race craft, machine setup and nutrition as well as physical and mental preparation and guidance on dealing with sponsors and the media, plus social media content creation.
While Harris is too young to take part in the FIM Women’s Speedway World Cup for 500cc riders aged 16 and over, she is rated among the favourites to win the Gold Trophy as 250cc female riders compete for an official FIM gold medal for the first time.
Making her first-ever trip abroad in 2025, Harris stormed to a 12-point maximum to win the Youth Women’s Speedway Gold Trophy of Croatia, which was staged as a support event to the 500cc competition.
She hopes to carry off the Gold Trophy on Saturday, before she continues working her way towards 500cc competition.
Everyone involved in the Ipswich Tru7 Group Witches wishes Demi a successful weekend in Croatia.
