THE REPORT

The Ipswich ‘Tru7 Group’ Witches won the last East Anglian derby of 2025 with a convincing victory over King’s Lynn at Foxhall on Thursday night in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.

The hosts lost Adam Ellis on the eve of the fixture due to a knee injury with rider replacement in operation at number two. Ipswich registered four 4-2s in the opening eight races and added a 5-1 in heat nine to pull further clear. Another maximum in heat 13 sealed the deal to give the Suffolk side bragging rights on derby day as they went six points clear at the top of the table. Tom Brennan top scored with 12+1.

Ipswich raced to a 4-2 in heat one as Jason Doyle won and it was almost a 5-1 but Jan Kvěch passed Danny King on the last lap for second. It was the same result in heat two as Dan Thompson couldn’t be caught out front. Emil Sayfutdinov provided another race winner for the home team in a shared heat three and it was the same result in heat four as Brennan picked up three points making it 14-10 to Ipswich.

King was victorious in a heat five 3-3 with Sayfutdinov stuck at the back but the Witches added two points to their lead in heat six as Doyle won again in a heat advantage. The Stars got their first race win of the night in heat seven as Chris Harris took the chequered flag in a shared heat. It was another 4-2 to the Suffolk side in heat eight as Jason Edwards held off Niels-Kirstian Iversen to win and put the home team 28-20 up.

The first 5-1 of the night arrived in heat nine as Sayfutdinov and King teamed up for the maximum. King’s Lynn got their first heat advantage in heat 10 as Richard Lawson was first across the line. Brennan provided another home winner in a shared heat 11 as Lawson was brought in as a tactical substitute in heat 12. However, neither he nor Harris could stop Sayfutdinov winning the race leaving the score 41-31.

The win was secured in heat 13 as Doyle and Brennan banged in a maximum as the Stars got a 4-2 in heat 14. Heat 15 was stopped with Brennan out front due to Harris falling at the end of the first lap and he was duly excluded. In the re-run, Brennan and Lawson exchanged places on the opening lap but it was Lawson who won the race in a 3-3, making the final score 51-39 to Ipswich at Foxhall on derby day.

RITCHIE HAWKINS REACTION

Ipswich ‘Tru7 Group’ Witches team manager Ritchie Hawkins reflects on Thursday’s win over King’s Lynn…

“Another three points on the board and it felt quite a comfortable evening for us, I expected King’s Lynn to push harder to be honest. The boys still had more left in them if they needed it, but it is another one ticked off before a couple of meetings against Sheffield in the next couple of weeks.

“We had a lot of race winners, Tom rode really well and is starting to master Foxhall. Doyley had no ill effects from his crash on Monday night, and everyone had positives to take from the evening. Jason Edwards had some really good rides and that will do his confidence around Foxhall the world of good.

“We have taken all the full set of bonus points so far this season and we needed to get that one done after the cup disappointment. We have done very well since then and had a good run of results, so I am happy that is done, and we can move onto bigger things now in the next few weeks.

“Adam had a crash in Sweden and has knee ligament damage. He had a scan in Poland today to assess the damage, and we await the result and his recovery time in the coming days. Jordan had another big crash at Oxford, because it was only last night, I haven’t had a chance to catch up with him today, but I will be doing that on Friday.”

IPSWICH TOWN & EDWARDS RIDERS OF THE NIGHT

Ipswich Town picked top scorer Brennan.

Edwards went for Doyle who scored 11 points.

WHAT IT MEANS

Ipswich take all three points after winning the aggregate bonus point, solidifying their lead at the top of the table. King’s Lynn return to Norfolk empty-handed and stay fifth with nothing but pride left to race for in 2025.

BEN FUND COLLECTION

During the interval we raised £3337.57 for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund, thank you for your generous donations.

NEXT FIXTURE

The Ipswich ‘Tru7 Group’ Witches travel to Sheffield to take on the Tigers on Thursday 28th August in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership. Tickets can be purchased on the gate.
