THE PREVIEW
The Witches take on the Belle Vue Aces at Foxhall Stadium on Thursday in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.
Ipswich have won their last three fixtures, including a super heat win away at National Speedway Stadium, which has seen them strengthen their position at the top of the table. A win against the Manchester outfit on Thursday would see them pick up three points and pull away further at the top of the table with just four meetings remaining ahead of the play-offs.
Ritchie Hawkins sticks with Adam Ellis at number two and Danny King at three for this fixture after switching the riding order for last week’s win over Oxford.
MANAGER’S NOTES
Ipswich ‘Tru7 Group’ Witches team manager Ritchie Hawkins gives us his pre-match thoughts…
“No away meetings this week so we are straight back into another home meeting against the reigning champions. We had a cracking meeting up there last week and there is three points up for grabs tonight for the winner. Belle Vue are a very solid team and maybe haven’t done themselves justice in their first two visits to Foxhall this season. We are getting right down to play-off time now and I’m sure their performance will be a lot better this time and it will be a tough meeting for the boys.
“We have stuck with the same riding order as last week, it worked really well for Adam, and it will be good to see it against one of our rivals for the title and I didn’t feel the need to change anything after last week.
“If we can take three points it will put us in a good position at the top, but we have got to face Sheffield home and away and Leicester before the league season finishes. Nearly all our meetings now are against our play-off rivals bar King’s Lynn next week, so a lot can change before we find out who we will be racing against in the play-offs.”
BELLE VUE ACES
The Aces are currently third in the table but they have endured two miserable visits to Suffolk in 2025. Beaten 67-23 in the Knockout Cup in March, they returned in July in the league only to be beaten 56-34 by the Witches. It will require a big improvement on Thursday to come away with a positive result with the aggregate bonus point up for grabs too after the 45-45 super heat victory for Ipswich at the National Speedway Stadium last week.
Current world number two Brady Kurtz leads the side at number one, having won the last three Grand Prix rounds in his debut season at that level. He is backed by Dan Bewley at number five who is currently fourth in the world standings.
LAST TIME WE MET IN SUFFOLK
Ipswich welcomed Belle Vue to Foxhall last month as they stormed to a 56-34 victory, overcoming a 14-point deficit to secure the aggregate bonus point in the process. The visitors won 52-38 at the National Speedway Stadium but the Witches looked determined to close the aggregate deficit and held a 10-point lead after seven heats. The hosts kicked on further in the second half of the meeting and extended their advantage on the night to 22 points to claim all three points. Danny King top scored with a paid maximum of 13+2.
