THE PREVIEW
The Witches host the final East Anglian derby of 2025 on Thursday as they take on the King’s Lynn Stars in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.
Ipswich were at Leicester on Monday evening as they went down to a 49-41 defeat after a last-heat decider, but the Suffolk side did pick up the aggregate bonus point which maintained their five-point lead at the top of the table. Team manager Ritchie Hawkins sticks with the same riding order on Thursday as the team continue to experiment with different partnerships ahead of the play-offs.
The aggregate bonus point is also up for grabs with the Stars holding a two-point lead after a 46-44 win last month at the Adrian Flux Arena, and three points for the Witches would see them take a huge step towards securing first position in the table with just two league meetings remaining after the derby.
MANAGER’S NOTES
Ipswich ‘Tru7 Group’ Witches team manager Ritchie Hawkins gives us his pre-match thoughts…
“We need to perform a lot better than when we last faced King’s Lynn at home, we owe it to the fans to perform better. We want to take three points for our league position but also for local pride and to make sure we restore than pecking order in the league again.
“I told the boys I was going to run with this riding order for the week, and we will see how it goes. It is all about preparation for the play-offs, it is not necessarily all about now and the boys are all on board and they know the reasons we are doing it. No doubt it will change again.
“It is another opportunity for Jason, and it is the end of his 28 days, as such, after Thursday. We have been really happy with him; he has come into the team and has won some great races and scored some good points. Jordan has meetings for Oxford; we haven’t discussed anything at length yet.”
KING’S LYNN STARS
King’s Lynn have endured another underwhelming campaign, marooned fifth in the table, well clear of the bottom two sides but way off the top four play-off positions. The highlight of the season was shocking the Witches in the Knockout Cup semi-final, but the Stars went on and lost heavily in the final to Leicester. The visitors have won just twice away from home this season in the league, at Birmingham and Oxford.
Ben Cook has returned to the side since their last visit to Foxhall and finds himself at reserve for this fixture.
LAST TIME WE MET IN SUFFOLK
Ipswich last welcomed King’s Lynn to Foxhall just last month in the Knockout Cup semi-final second leg. The visitors held a six-point lead from the first leg at the Adrian Flux Arena and arrived in Suffolk without Niels-Kristian Iversen and Ben Cook with rider replacement in operation at one and Lewis Kerr guesting at four. The Witches were missing the injured Jordan Jenkins as Jason Edwards stepped in at number seven. There was nothing to separate the two sides for the duration of the meeting as the away side secured their progress in the competition after an incident-filled heat 14. Emil Sayfutdinov top scored with a 14+1 paid maximum.
