THE PREVIEW

Foxhall Stadium hosts Tiger’s Academy Open on Thursday, an individual meeting showcasing the best of the British youth scene.

The event is a tribute to John Louis, who was proud of riding for his hometown team, packed with local talent and always played an active role in trying to develop local and international riders.

Whilst the event is mainly individual there will also be a pairs element to proceedings.

There will be 20 heats of qualifying action with the top two going directly into the final. The next four highest scorers will race in a semi-final with the top two from that race progressing to the final.

There are two groups of riders, Group A riders and Group B riders and riders from Group A have been ‘paired’ with Group B riders so that a senior rider can help and advise them during the meeting. Senior riders will be assigned on Tuesday.

Riders will race as individuals during the qualifying heats, semi-final and final but the top two scoring ‘pairs’ will then contest the Tiger’s Pairs Final, which will use a 4-3-2-0 scoring format.

The hugely successful Great Britain Speedway Team will be represented to make a presentation to the riders ahead of the event with help and advice on their career progression.

MANAGER’S NOTES

Ipswich ‘Tru7 Group’ Witches team manager Ritchie Hawkins gives his pre-match thoughts…

“Now we look forward to something different at Foxhall. We have some great youngsters here in the meeting and it will be an awesome experience for them. It will be a new track for a lot of them to ride and there will be some exciting races and after last week hopefully a big crowd can create a great atmosphere for the last speedway at Ipswich this year.

“There will be senior riders in the pits helping the boys throughout the meeting, looking after their pairs with a final at the end of the night. The idea is for them to gain knowledge and experience, and it is a wonderful opportunity for them to learn, and I am sure it will be an entertaining night.

“These guys are the future of British Speedway and will be the ones you will watch and progress onto bigger things hopefully. I hope everyone comes out to back them and we can have a big celebration after last week.”
