THE REPORT

The Ipswich ‘Tru7 Group’ Witches pulled further clear at the top of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership table after beating Belle Vue at Foxhall on Thursday.

The home team made a strong start to the meeting to establish a lead, but the away side stayed in the meeting with just four points the difference after eight races. However, Ipswich had enough in the tank in the second half of the meeting to secure a comfortable win which saw them pick up three points and go five clear at the summit. Jason Doyle top scored with 12+2.

Adam Ellis and Doyle raced to a maximum in heat one as the Aces pulled two points back in heat two with a heat advantage. Birthday boy Danny King took victory in heat three in a Witches 4-2 with Tom Brennan working hard to get past Zach Cook for a point. Emil Sayfutdinov won heat four in another heat advantage to the hosts making it 15-9 to the home team.

King was excluded from heat five after touching the tapes and his replacement Dan Thompson was then excluded from the re-run after an early fall. At the third attempt Brady Kurtz picked up three points in a 4-2 to his side. Heat six was stopped when Tate Zischke hit the deck with repairs needed to the fence. After a short delay the re-run got going without the excluded Zischke and Dan Bewley won a shared heat. Sayfutdinov couldn’t be caught in heat seven as it ended in a 3-3 and it was a third 3-3 on the trot in heat eight as Jake Mulford won, leaving it 26-22 to Ipswich.

King and Brennan fired in a maximum in heat nine as Doyle and Ellis followed it up with another in heat 10. The visitors clawed two points back in heat 11 as Kurtz took the chequered flag and he was back out in heat 12 as a tactical substitute and duly won again in a maximum for his side that narrowed the score to 39-33.

Doyle won heat 13 and was joined at the front by Sayfutdinov who worked his way past both Aces for the maximum. Jason Edwards was forced to start from 15 metres back in heat 14 after missing the two-minute time allowance as Brennan was first across the line in a 3-3. Heat 15 was stopped as Jaimon Lidsey crashed and was excluded. In the re-run Doyle won, and Ellis passed Bewley in style to end the night on a high with a 5-1 as the Foxhall crowd saw their team take a step closer to securing first place in the league ahead of the play-offs.

RITCHIE HAWKINS REACTION

Ipswich ‘Tru7 Group’ Witches team manager Ritchie Hawkins reflects on Thursday’s win over Belle Vue…

“I’m delighted to get another win and three points and at the moment that cements our place at the top, but we have got to race our other rivals yet in Sheffield and Leicester. We have got difficult meetings coming up, but we were really pleased to get the result. On the whole, the team showed the attitude and fight needed to get the job done.

“It was really solid from the top five and Adam’s last two meetings have shown how good he is at Foxhall which we know, so it is great to see that from him and he was backed up brilliantly by the others. Adam’s ride in heat 15 was so quick and he is as quick as anyone around here and heat 13 from Jason and Emil, what a great ride from them in that race. We just need to work on our reserves a little bit now.

“Dan is finding it tough at Foxhall at the moment, conditions have been tricky the last couple of weeks, and he is finding it hard to cope with. We know the level he can ride at and the standards he has set. Because he has been so good it is emphasized more when he has a tough night. Jason needs more laps at Foxhall so that when it is tricky or a bit grippy and bumpy like it has been, he has the confidence to ride it.”

RN EUSTON RIDER OF THE NIGHT

RN Euston chose top scorer Doyle who dropped just one point to an opponent.

WHAT IT MEANS

Ipswich collect two points for the win and the aggregate bonus point after the 45-45 super heat win at the National Speedway Stadium, putting them five points clear at the top. Belle Vue drop to fourth.

NEXT FIXTURE

The Ipswich ‘Tru7 Group’ Witches travel to Leicester to take on the Lions on Monday 18th August in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership. Tickets can be purchased on the gate and in advance here.
